Welcome to Bushido Karate Club which has been established for well over 30 years.
Our beginners classes are based in various centres in the area
(Please see below for the times of our beginners lessons at this venue)
The ancient art of Karate offers a unique opportunity to develop confidence, awareness, discipline, self defence and motor skills, it has also been recognised that regular karate training helps in the development of both a person’s physical and emotional control, which are two of the attributes acquired to help you in all aspects of life.
We offer classes in a safe, productive, educational and fun environment. For children aged 5 to 12 we offer karate lessons which are designed to be both fun and instructive, where we work on a childs confidence, awareness, self defence and motor skills, in our teenage and adults classes which range from 13 years upwards we perfect our karate technique and understanding of this mystical art.
Although students in our clubs compete against each other in domestic, national and international competitions. Karate training is more of a competition with oneself allowing students to proceed at their own pace. The environment is ideal for those who love physical activity but shy away from the pressures often associated with team sports and competition.
Always remember that Karate is within the reach of everyone, regardless of age or fitness levels.
When a new member joins, we aim to help them become confident, have values, to respect others and to be the best they can be.
Childrens Karate Lessons
We have many children learning the values of Karate and applying them in their daily life. Karate for children is not only fun, it also provides many important benefits to young people. Some of these benefits are mental development, moral development and physical development. These are the same three classes of personal development found in traditional educational systems.
In terms of mental development Karate helps build concentration, focus, clear thinking and decisiveness. Karate has strong internal benefits as well. It helps instil patience, discipline, perseverance, understanding and open mindedness. It builds confidence, develops self-control and increases calmness, courtesy and inner peace, all of which will aid young children in every endeavour they undertake in life.
Karate is good for the body, physically it is excellent for the heart, building strong bones, bigger muscles, creates resilience and makes the body less susceptible to sickness and injury. In all these ways Karate is profoundly helpful to young people in dealing with the many challenges facing them in today’s society. It brings them balance and perspective at an age when these are needed most, by adding a strong foundation to their character.
We have seen so many shy children develop confidence and self-belief through regular training. No one ‘sits on the bench’ in karate. Students develop at their own pace and their confidence will build as they progress through the belts.
“We are what we repeatedly do. So that excellence, is not an act but a habit.”
Thinking negatively can affect our actions negatively. Thinking positively can have a positive impact on our actions.
Adults Karate Lessons
Our karate classes are friendly and welcoming, with a comprehensive timetable allowing you to choose karate classes that fit around your existing schedule. Strangely, those who practice Karate wholeheartedly develop greater compassion towards others and are far less inclined to be violent. Karate becomes less a fight against another person and more a battle to perfect ones own character.
Of course there are many other reasons for practicing Karate such as physical fitness, increased concentration, confidence, respect, discipline, competition, challenge, self-defence, social activity and fun.
A survey of adults who have taken karate lessons for 3 years or more felt that they had taken control of many areas of their lives, when they walked down the street they felt a greater degree of confidence and self awareness.
Contrary to popular belief you do not need a high level of fitness and flexibility to train, as long as you enjoy a reasonable level of fitness, regular training at your own pace will gradually improve your fitness levels and flexibility. If you have concerns regarding your health and suitability to karate seek the advice of your doctor before commencing training.
“The student of Karate, renders his mind empty of selfishness and wickedness in an effort to react appropriately towards anything he might encounter. This is the meaning of kara, the ’empty’ of Karate.”
